Interview with Lesley Paterson, Xterra World Champion
Lesley Paterson “The Scottish Rocket” Xterra World Champion, don’t be fooled by her fun loving nature, she is a ferocious competitor. Listen as Richard Diaz chats with her as she prepares for the 2013 Xterra World Championships in Kapalua Maui on Oct. 27th.
On 23 October 2011, Paterson won the Xterra World Championship in Kapalua, Maui, despite suffering a flat tire on the bike stage, and falling on the run stage. She recorded a run time of 43:54, almost 10 minutes faster than Lance Armstrong, whose presence had led to increased publicity for the race. Paterson repeated as champion in 2012, winning by almost four minutes over Bárbara Riveros.
Paterson coaches triathletes using the name Braveheart Coaching, she describes her coaching work as "the hardest and yet one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done in triathlon. She is working on a project to produce a reality TV series in which she trains underprivileged kids to race their first triathlon.

Mr Tenacity- Marshall Ulrich, Ultra Marathon Champion
Marshall Ulrich, the toughest endurance athlete in the world! At 62, he just completed his 19th Badwater UltraMarathon. In 2008 he completed a record trans-American crossing, 3,063.2-miles (San Francisco to New York) in 52.5 days, and more than 117 marathons. His effort, which included many injuries and obstacles, was chronicled in the 2010 movie, Running America. This is a show you just don’t want to miss!

Scott Tinley-Triatlon Legend
Scott Tinley is a triathlon legend. He won the Ironman World Championship twice and the Ironman World Series 3 times. No other pro triathlete remained competitive as long as Scott. Join Richard Diaz as he revisits the sport with one of its principal players.
“People always ask me why I haven’t tried to use my name more to continue profiting off my career, to continue my legacy,” he says. “I’ve always thought that people who were asking for more than their 15 minutes of fame were asking for trouble… for me, it’s more important to throw myself into things and figure them out. To keep things changing.”
Scott was inducted into the Triathlon and Ironman Hall of Fame in 1999.

Interview with Rod Dixon
In the 1980s Rod Dixon was one of the most competitive runners on the American road-racing circuit. He set world-class times in the 1500 m (3:33.9) to the marathon (2:08:59), and won bronze medals in the World Cross Country Championships in 1973 and 1982. His 1983 victory in New York City Marathon was the most dramatic finishes the event has seen, when he came from behind to catch leader Geoff Smith at the 26-mile mark and win by 9 seconds.
Rod Dixon’s is the founder of the KIDS MARATHON FOUNDATION whose mission is to create a life-long commitment to good health and fitness habits in children at risk of obesity-related health problems. The program educates, empowers, and inspires 7-12 year old children to become and stay fit.

The Duel in the Sun Revisted
Meet Dick Beardsley, most famous for his “Duel in the Sun” battle that resulted in a 2 place win behind Alberto Salazar (both runners breaking 2:09) at the Boston Marathon in 1982. Alberto to this day claims Dick pushed him harder than any other runner.
The battle between Dick and Alberto is the stuff of legends! They ran step for step for over 2 hours with Dick leading until 2:06 into the final half mile when Alberto dug deep and overtook him within a sea of motorcycle cops that many feel impeded Dicks chances to respond to Alberto’s surge. What a story, listen to it from the guy that lived it.

Women Runners who Rule Par II
Meet Milena Glusac, 3X National Champion (20k, 25k and half marathon). She ran a PR 1:11:34 in the half-marathon at the World Championships and in 2002 ran 2:31:14 at the New York Marathon, 9th overall to capture an Olympic Marathon A qualifying standard.
She has been a member of two US World Cross-Country Championship teams and was ranked as one of the top ten road racers in the world in 2001. She earned All-American status seven times and was recently named one of the top 50 athletes of the last 50 years in San Diego high school history.
Milena currently speaks and lectures about running, fitness and training, and is deeply rooted in the national and international running and sports community.

Women Runners Who Rule
Brie Felnagle is an NCAA champ in the 1500 and DMR and 12x All American. She finished 3rd this season at the USA indoor championships in the mile and posted 15:14 in the 5k. I decided to feature a lady who knows what it means to compete at an elite level. In an earlier episode, Jenny Hadfield and I discussed the performances of women runners over the past 30 years and it’s clear that women are improving at a staggering rate as opposed to the male counter parts in the sport. Olympic Silver Medalist Leo Manzano "The Rain Maker"
During the 2012 Olympic Games Leo Manzano shattered a 44 year drought for Team USA in the 1500 meter event, earning a Silver medal with a blistering fast close in the final 100 meters. Listen as host Richard Diaz helps Leo re-live his amazing accomplishments.
Leo Manzano earned a 1500 meter silver medal at the 2012 London Olympic Games (3:34.79); the first American to do so since Jim Ryun's silver in Mexico City 1968. He won his first USA Outdoor 1500 meter title at the 2012 Olympic Trials, earning his second berth on a U.S. Olympic team.

A Race for Madmen

Ultra Marathon Man
The Ultra Marathon Man, Dean Karnazes shares his thoughts with our host Richard Diaz. Dean is an ESPN ESPY Award winner as Best Outdoor Athlete and author of Ultramarathon Man: Confessions of an All-Night Runner, a fun interview with an amazing athlete.
In 2006, Karnazes embarked on the well-publicized Endurance 50: 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 consecutive days. Beginning with the Lewis and Clark Marathon in St. Louis on September 17, 2006, it finished with the New York City Marathon on November 5.
The adventure was the primary subject of a film entitled UltraMarathon Man: 50 Marathons - 50 States - 50 Days, which was the first feature film about Karnazes. The film was produced by Journeyfilm, had a national theatrical release in 300 screens in 2008.
